Ouch! We’re feeling the pinch!
This week the CPML is launching a campaign to raise $200,900 to support the Party, its press and all its activities. The campaign will last six months.
These are very difficult times for us financially, just as they are for the masses of people. Inflation has nearly tripled our printing costs in the last two years, just to mention one example. What we are faced with is nothing short of an emergency.
Several months ago we had wanted to expand The Call to 28 pages a week. Now we realize this is financially impossible, and we have even had to cut back our staff. Far from expanding, we must struggle just to stay afloat.
Thus the first $100,000 in our goal is a matter of survival. But we believe it is possible to turn this situation around – not only to continue to publish the paper and carry out the Party’s other activities, but to raise an additional $100,000 to expand our work. For example:
–We want more money to help meet the expenses of organizers and correspondents in the Black Belt South, in the fields of the Southwest, and in other places where the people have drawn the battle lines against oppression.
–We want to help establish Marxist-Leninist book stores in several cities across the country, projects which require sizeable investments of capital to get them off the ground.
–We want to publish more material in Spanish and other minority languages.
–Party summer camps need your financial support. Many people have learned about Marxism-Leninism and improved their physical fitness in the relaxed atmosphere of our summer camps. We would like to buy some land so we can hold these camps economically and on a regular basis.
The Call will publicize and help sum up various fundraising efforts across the country in the weeks and months to come. Right now Party members and supporters are drawing up a comprehensive plan for how we can meet and even surpass the $200,000 mark.
Among other special events, The Call staff will be selling lifetime subscriptions for only $100 and selling original Call artwork like B. Brown’s Africa solidarity drawings and Goyo cartoons. Each week we will publish a barometer to show how far we have gone and how far we have to go.
More than at any other time in the past, we need your support today. We literally can’t survive without it. Dig as deep as you can, and help the CPML and The Call do all the work necessary to meet our goal.
