In Struggle! has helped to further develop the debate within the Canadian Marxist-Leninist movement through recently clarifying their views on the international situation – clearly rejecting the Three Worlds analysis and the strategy of world united front against the present main enemy – the two superpowers. At the time of the Third National Conference of Canadian Marxist-Leninists, IS! indicated that the “declaration” issued on that occasion by this group represented a consolidated expression of IS!’s present views on the question. In it they make several serious mistakes, including denying that national independence is a condition for socialism, equating defense of national independence with social-chauvinism and revisionism, and rejecting the communist line on the anti-fascist united front in World War Two.
These questions are far-reaching, and will undoubtedly come up again. Thus in our critique of this declaration, we will probably only scratch the surface of the substantial points of disagreement. In any event, we take this opportunity to expose what we believe to be serious errors, in the hope that debate can allow all genuine Canadian Marxist-Leninists to unite around a correct application of a scientific, revolutionary viewpoint to the present world situation.
